Although I love music and have many favorite singers, bands, and songs, my favorite song has always been ‘Because’ by the Dave Clark Five.
However, this post is not about that song or band, although the tune and lyrics are included in this story.
I was getting ready to watch the Toronto Blue Jays game today and had just got home from picking Holly Golightly up from the dog groomer.
Gail, the dog groomer, called me at 10:30 this morning to remind me I had an appointment for 10:00 am.
I immediately looked at my watch and shuddered with embarrassment.
Oh, Gail, I apologize for forgetting Holly Golightly’s appointment.
That’s okay, Danny. I figured there must have been something wrong or that you forgot. Just bring Holly now and it will not be a problem.
I know you have heard this a million times from me, but Holly hates going anywhere. Period.
She hates the car, going for walks, people, dogs, cats, squirrels, and even a tiny bird she killed last year – to my utter disbelief and devastation!
But Holly likes going to Head to Tail Pet Grooming in Langley.
Gail’s place was two blocks from where I lived in Langley, and I would usually walk Holly there. She doesn’t get excited by wagging her tail or other forms of happiness, but she likes Gail.
And Gail always does an excellent job on Holly’s grooming.
So, even though I now live in White Rock – I don’t mind driving to Gail’s place.
She is such a lovely friend!
But back to the Toronto Blue Jays baseball game.
I had bought a can of Hires Root Beer and Vodka (yes, it is already mixed!) to drink while watching the game.

My buddy Larry Conran-Smith recommended it to me. Larry’s a few years older than me and is still learning how to drink liquor. However, that’s another story.
Last night, the Blue Jays got slaughtered by the Boston Red Sox.
They were humiliated, and I hoped they would seek revenge during today’s game.
I was sitting in my new recliner, about to watch the game on my new big-screen television, when the announcer at the pregame show announced that the game had been postponed until August 7th.
And I had already opened the root beer/vodka can.
As I continued watching the pregame show, I noticed that one of the men being interviewed was wearing his watch on the right arm, not the left arm.
He must be left-handed, I thought – because everybody who is right-handed wears their watch on the left arm.
But that made me wonder.
Why am I wearing my watch on my left wrist when I am right-handed?
I write with my right hand, gesture using my right hand, hold my utensils in the right hand, shake hands using the right hand, point directions, and throw with it.
So, why don’t we wear our watch on the right hand?
And why are female shirts buttoned on the wrong side? Did the genius who decided this think that men would confuse shirts with flowers and lace?
Why don’t you just Google to find out, Danny? Why are you writing about such simple stuff?
Well, Spanky, I am in a bad mood because of the rain in Buffalo.
Now, I will have to watch the New York Yankees play instead. At least I’ll have an excuse to open another can of root beer.
Why do men part their hair on the right side and women part theirs on the left side?
Now, I’m sure I’ve caused a commotion with Spanky. He doesn’t drink alcohol anymore now that he’s married and the father of two children.
I rarely drink alcohol because of my throat cancer. It burns like the devil when I try to swallow.
Hires Root Beer & Vodka is the only thing I ever drink, but only in minimum amounts.
I don’t miss the hangovers, and I have had a medical prescription for cannabis for many years, and that provides a ‘high’ that is easier on the body and mind than alcohol.
Oops, there goes the phone.
Gail’s text indicated that Holly was ready to be picked up.
A short time later, I picked up Holly and thanked Gail.
Holly looks gorgeous and smells good, so the day was not a complete loss!
Now that I am back home, I decided not to watch TV.
Instead, I will listen to music beginning with the song ‘Because.’
Update: July 21, 2024 (Noon)
Holly Golightly passed away in September 2023 at the age of 17. It took me months to get over grieving the loss.
Several months later, I adopted a 10-year-old rescued dog on Valentine’s Day.

I named him Buddy Holly, and he has brightened my days with love.
He needs a bath and trim, so I’ll make an appointment with Gail to groom him.
If you decide to take your pet to Gail, please tell her that Danny sent you.
Dedicated to Gail at Head to Tail Pet Grooming
I hope my stories are a gift to your head and heart.
Hugs,
Danny
Today’s tune from Danny’s library (purchased):
It’s right that I should care about you
And try to make you happy when you’re blue
It’s right; it’s right to feel the way I do
Because, because I love you
It’s wrong to say I don’t think of you
‘Cause when you say these things
You know it makes me blue
Give me one kiss, and I’ll be happy
Just, just to be with you
Give me, give me, a chance to be near you
Because, because I love you
Give me one kiss, and I’ll be happy
Just, just to be with you
Give me, give me, a chance to be near you
Because, because I love you
Because, because I love you
