When the world gets crazy, I listen to music instead of watching the increasing amount of depressing news coverage on TV.

Instead, I only turn on the television to watch Netflix, Disney Channel, HBO, and sports (Baseball, Football, and Hockey).

I have always spent much of my day listening to music – I have never been one to sit in front of a TV all day long except when I am not well and confined to bed.

My Music Library

I purchased every song I put on my website, and my library consists of over 12,000+ purchased songs. I have never downloaded anything for free—I always pay for my music.

Artists deserve to be paid for their work – would you work for free?

I purchase most of my songs from iTunes now, but I use YouTube to search and preview musicians and their songs, before purchasing.

I have attended many concerts, but that is no longer possible because of my health and age (I’m 75 years old). So, I like to see the song performed on YouTube to give me the feeling of watching the .

My latest discovery is the late Nina Simone.

Although I previously knew very little about her or her music, I found this animated YouTube video that captures both her singing and piano-playing genius.

However, the animation video was the first song I watched, and it sparked my interest in viewing more from Nina.

I watched about an hour of her performances from the ’60s and ’70s and chose this clip from London, England, in 1968.

It’s about 24 minutes long and includes her most popular songs.

I have always loved blues and soul music, and now I have a new singer to add to my favorite list.

Some may argue that Aretha Franklin was the ‘Queen of Soul,’ and I agree. She is at the top of my list of favorite female singers.

A day without music is like a day without sunshine.

Adopt A Rescued Dog or Cat

Another strategy for overcoming life’s fears and tears is to rescue a dog or cat from an animal shelter.

I have had dogs and cats for the past 50 years, and they have given me so much love.

Buddy was found starving in the forest by hunters. His matted fur required a complete shave.

The vet had to remove all his teeth, and he was determined to be 10 years old when I adopted him. He had been at the shelter for 4 months, so I guess no one wanted him.

But it was love at first sight for Buddy and me when I adopted him on Valentine’s Day 2024.

He follows me wherever I go and also sleeps in bed with me.

I also try to take Buddy for a daily walk in the neighborhood.

During today’s walk, we saw flowers beginning to appear in people’s gardens.

Those flowers made me happy because many friends in other parts of Canada are dealing with freezing temperatures and snow.

Been there, done that!

Watching A Hockey Game

I am one of the rare Canadians who only watch hockey during the playoffs. I am a huge baseball (Toronto Blue Jays) and football (Seattle Seahawks) fan.

Team Canada’s win in the 4 Nations Hockey Tournament championship game in Boston also buoyed my spirits recently.

It was a great game, even though Wayne Gretsky, a Canadian, was cheering for the US Team.

Ironically, Connor McDavid, who scored the winning goal, is the captain of the Edmonton Oilers team, where Mr. Gretsky began his NHL career.

My Bathtub Music Studio

I am currently soaking in the tub and listening to Chilliwack, a great Canadian band.

Buddy is lying beside me on a mat.

I’m smiling from ear to ear; it’s been a great few days!
