Why Last Night’s Concert Was The Best Ever!

Originally published September 14, 2014

There aren’t many singers still alive or rock bands still together that I currently have on my bucket list to see live in concert, but Reginald Kenneth Dwight was definitely at the top of my list. So, attending last night’s concert was the best ever!

And the fact that Reginald’s concert was at Rogers Arena in Vancouver was incredible!

I had already graduated from high school when Reggie cut his first album in 1969, and one of the songs from that album is still one of my all-time favorites.

He has had many hit songs over the past five decades, including:

  • More than fifty Top 40 hits, including seven consecutive No. 1 US albums.
  • Fifty-eight Billboard Top 40 singles.
  • Twenty-seven Top 10, four No. 2, and nine No. 1 hits.
  • He has had at least one song on the Billboard Hot 100 for thirty-three consecutive years.
  • He has the most No. 1 hits on the US Adult Contemporary Chart (16 No. 1’s).
  • One of his singles sold over 33 million copies worldwide, and it’s the best-selling single of all time.

Reginald Kenneth Dwight was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and received a knighthood from the Queen in 1998.

So, I was pretty excited to see this legend perform last night, and it was among the best concerts that I have ever attended (the Eagles, Van Morrison, Mark Knopfler, Marvin Gaye, The Beach Boys, Cher, The Moody Blues, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Fleetwood Mac, and Bob Seager are also on my favorite concerts list).

Reginald Kenneth Dwight played for more than two hours, and during those magical hours, many of the fans remained on their feet—myself included.

However, the most significant difference between Reginald Kenneth Dwight’s concerts and other musicians is that nobody in the audience played an “air guitar.”

Nope, they were all playing “air pianos” instead!

And with this clue, you’ve probably figured out that Reginald Kenneth Dwight is also known as Sir Elton John.

I don’t want to rain on your parade, Danny, but anyone reading your story would have done a Google search for Reginald Kenneth Dwight and known it was Elton John. ~ Spanky

A smiling musician holding a tuba while sitting on a chair in a wooden-paneled room with church pews in the background.
Spanky, blowing his own horn.

That may be true, Spanky, and those same readers will be doing a Google search for Spanky and learn that you are actually Al Ryan, a not-so-famous spark plug salesman. ~ Danny

Anyway, folks, let’s return to my story about Elton John’s concert in Lotusland.

Here are a few pictures that I took last night.

By the way, I was sitting in Section 118 – Row 1, Seat 1.

Most of my readers who are older than Spanky will remember when cameras were not allowed at concerts.

These days, everyone has a mobile phone with a camera.

Can you imagine trying to prevent thousands of fans from taking photos?

I have attended many other excellent concerts, and I hope to one day see ABBA perform.

Oh, and by the way, my favorite song by Sir Elton is Your Song.

It was Elton’s first international Top 10 hit!

For those facing health or emotional problems, listening to music might be helpful because it helps calm my heart’s fears and anxieties.

And always remember: Never give up on your dreams!

Dedicated to Sir Elton John

I hope my stories are a gift to your head and heart.

Hugs,

 Danny

Today’s tune from Danny’s library (purchased):

Your Song – Elton John

It’s a little bit funny this feeling inside
I’m not one of those who can easily hide
I don’t have much money, but boy, if I did
I’d buy a big house where we both could live

If I was a sculptor, heh, but then again, no
Or a man who makes potions in a traveling show
I know it’s not much, but it’s the best I can do
My gift is my song, and this one’s for you

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple, but now that it’s done
I hope you don’t mind, I hope you don’t mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you’re in the world

I sat on the roof and kicked off the moss
Well, a few of the verses, well, they’ve got me quite cross
But the sun’s been quite kind while I wrote this song
It’s for people like you that keep it turned on

So excuse me forgetting, but these things I do
You see, I’ve forgotten if they’re green or they’re blue
Anyway, the thing is, what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I’ve ever seen

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple, but now that it’s done
I hope you don’t mind, I hope you don’t mind, that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you’re in the world

I hope you don’t mind, I hope you don’t mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you’re in the world

Songwriters: Elton John, Bernie Taupin

Here are the songs I’m listening to now: These songs will make you smile today.
